24. Fuchsia Gym

Walkthrough

Go south out of Lavender onto Route 12. A Snorlax sleeps across the road. Play the Poké Flute to wake it and it battles you; it is level 30, and this is your only chance to catch it here. A second one sleeps on Route 16.

Route 12 has a fishing house where a man gives you the Super Rod, and a girl upstairs in the north gate gives you TM27 (Return). Walk south along Routes 12, Route 13, Route 14 and Route 15; each has about ten trainers. In the Route 15 gate, an aide gives you the Exp. Share if you own at least 50 kinds of Pokémon.

In Fuchsia City, the fishing man's brother gives you the Good Rod. The Move Deleter lives here too.

Pay ¥500 to enter the Safari Zone. You get Safari Balls and a set number of steps, and battles there are catch-only. Find the Secret House for HM03 (Surf), and pick up the Gold Teeth in the west area. Give the teeth back to the Safari Zone's warden in Fuchsia and he gives you HM04 (Strength). Chansey, Kangaskhan, Dratini and Tauros live in the Safari Zone.

Koga's Gym is full of invisible walls. He uses Poison types: Koffing, Muk and Weezing, up to level 43. Psychic and Ground moves work well. Beating him earns the Soul Badge and TM06 (Toxic). The Soul Badge lets you use Surf outside battle.
