Kanto walkthrough — 3. Route 1 and Oak's Parcel

Walkthrough

As you try to leave the lab, your rival challenges you to your first battle. His Pokémon is level 5, the same as yours.

Walk north along Route 1. It has no trainers, only wild Pidgey and Rattata. You have no Poké Balls yet, so this trip is for experience.

In Viridian City, step into the Poké Mart. The clerk hands you Oak's Parcel to take back to Professor Oak. The road north out of the city stays shut until you do.
