Types
The 17 types and the Gen 3 type chart the game uses.
pkmn has the 17 types of the Generation 3 games and uses the Generation 3 type chart. There is no Fairy type. The full chart, and every type's strengths and weaknesses, is on the Types pages.
| Multiplier | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ×2 | Super effective |
| ×1 | Normal |
| ×½ | Not very effective |
| ×0 | No effect |
Against a Pokémon with two types the two multipliers are multiplied, so a move can do ×4 or ×¼.
Differs from the mainline games
Battles follow Generation 9 rules, but the chart is Generation 3's:
- steel resists ghost and dark moves (×½). From Generation 6 on, Steel takes normal damage from both.
- There is no fairy type, so Dragon has no weakness to it and no Pokémon changed type to gain it.
Physical and special
Whether a move is physical or special depends on the move, not on its type, as in Generation 4 and later. Thunder Punch is physical and Shadow Ball is special, for example. Each move's page shows its category; see Damage for which stats each category uses.
