Status effects
Burn, poison, bad poison, paralysis, sleep, freeze and confusion: odds, damage and cures.
A Pokémon can have only one of burn, poison, bad poison, paralysis, sleep or freeze at a time. Confusion is separate and can come on top of any of them.
Summary
| Status | Each turn | Other effect | Immune |
|---|---|---|---|
| Burn | Loses 1/8 of max HP | Physical moves do ×½ (not Facade, not with Guts) | Fire types, Water Veil |
| Poison | Loses 1/8 of max HP | Poison and Steel types, Immunity | |
| Bad poison | Loses 1/16, 2/16, 3/16… of max HP, up to 15/16 | The count restarts when it switches out | Poison and Steel types, Immunity |
| Paralysis | Speed ×½; 25% chance to be fully paralyzed each turn | Limber | |
| Sleep | Cannot move for 1 to 3 turns | Insomnia, Vital Spirit | |
| Freeze | Cannot move; 20% chance to thaw each turn | Ice types, Magma Armor | |
| Confusion | 2 to 5 turns; 33% chance to hit itself | Own Tempo |
Every chip of damage is at least 1 HP.
Details
- Sleep lasts 1 to 3 turns: the counter is set to 2–4 and goes down before each attempt to move, and the Pokémon acts on the turn it wakes. Rest always sleeps for 2 turns. Early Bird wakes twice as fast. Snore and Sleep Talk work while asleep. The counter is kept when the Pokémon switches out.
- Freeze thaws on a 1-in-5 roll each turn, when the frozen Pokémon is hit by a damaging Fire-type move, or when it uses Flame Wheel, Sacred Fire, Flare Blitz, Fusion Flare or Scald.
- Confusion self-hits are a 40-power typeless physical attack against itself, using its own Attack and Defense; they cannot be critical. A confused Pokémon cannot be confused again.
- Bad poison's counter is not kept: it starts again from 1/16 after a switch and in each battle. Poison Heal heals 1/8 per turn instead; Magic Guard takes no chip damage.
- Heatproof halves burn damage.
- Leaf Guard prevents status in harsh sun. Shed Skin cures on a 1-in-3 roll each turn; Hydration cures in rain.

Poison outside battle
A poisoned or badly poisoned Pokémon loses 1 HP every 4 steps you walk. Poison can make it faint outside battle; when it does, the poison is cured.
Differs from the mainline games
The status rules are mostly Generation 9's (paralysis halves Speed, sleep lasts 1–3 turns, 20% thaw, 33% confusion self-hit), with these differences:
- Burn damage is 1/8 of max HP, as in Generation 3 to 6, not 1/16.
- Electric types can be paralyzed.
- Poison outside battle can make a Pokémon faint, as in Generation 3 to 4.
- Binding moves (Wrap, Bind, Fire Spin and the rest) last 3 to 6 turns and do 1/16 per turn, as in Generation 3.
