Abilities

Which ability a Pokémon has, hidden abilities, the abilities not played yet, and abilities that work outside battle.

Every Pokémon has one ability. What each ability does is on its own page, for example Intimidate.

Which ability a Pokémon has

Each species has up to two regular abilities and a hidden ability, taken from the Generation 9 games. A Pokémon gets one of the two regular abilities, chosen when it is created (a species with only one regular ability always has that one). The ability never changes afterwards.

Differs from the mainline games

Abilities come from the Generation 9 lists, not Emerald's, so many Generation 3 Pokémon have an ability they did not have in Emerald (for example Competitive, Scrappy or Storm Drain).

Not in the game yet

Hidden abilities cannot be obtained yet. The Pokémon pages list each species' hidden ability, but no Pokémon in the game has one: the server refuses to create a Pokémon in the hidden slot.

Abilities not played

Four abilities in the data have no effect, because no Pokémon in the game has the form they need:

AbilityWhy
MultitypeNo Arceus forms in the game
Flower GiftNo Cherrim forms in the game
Zen ModeNo Darmanitan forms in the game
IllusionNo Pokémon in the game has it

Abilities outside battle

The first Pokémon in your party changes wild encounters, as in the main series. The server reads your lead from your saved party.

AbilityEffect
Stench, White Smoke, Quick Feet, InfiltratorWild encounters half as often
Sand Veil (in a sandstorm), Snow Cloak (in snow)Wild encounters half as often
Illuminate, Arena Trap, No GuardWild encounters twice as often
Static, Lightning Rod50% chance to meet an Electric-type Pokémon, if the area has one
Magnet Pull50% chance to meet a Steel-type Pokémon
Flash Fire50% chance to meet a Fire-type Pokémon
Harvest50% chance to meet a Grass-type Pokémon
Storm Drain50% chance to meet a Water-type Pokémon
Hustle, Vital Spirit, Pressure50% chance the wild Pokémon is at the highest level for the area
Keen Eye, Intimidate50% chance to avoid a wild Pokémon 5 or more levels below the lead (lead above level 5)
SynchronizeWild Pokémon always have the lead's nature
Cute Charm2 in 3 chance a wild Pokémon is the opposite gender

Differs from the mainline games

These follow the later games where they differ from Emerald: Synchronize always passes its nature on (Emerald: 50%), the type-pulling abilities work on land and water, and Snow Cloak, Quick Feet, Infiltrator, No Guard, Lightning Rod, Flash Fire, Harvest and Storm Drain have their later-generation field effects. Flame Body and Magma Armor do nothing outside battle, since there are no Eggs.
