EV training
Effort values from battles, vitamins, EV berries, held items and the Exp. Reamplifier.
Effort values (EVs) raise a Pokémon's stats. You can see them on the IVs/EVs tab of a Pokémon's Summary, and on the EVs row of a Pokémon's details in the PC.
Caps
| Source | Per stat | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Battles | 255 | 510 |
| Vitamins | 252 | 510 |
A vitamin is refused once the stat has 252 EVs or the total is 510. EVs a battle took above 252 are kept.
From battles
Each Pokémon you knock out gives its EV yield (shown on its species page) to every Pokémon that earns experience from it. Held items change the gain:
- Power items add their bonus to one stat's yield:
| Held item | Stat | Extra EVs per Pokémon defeated |
|---|---|---|
| HP | +8 | |
| Attack | +8 | |
| Defense | +8 | |
| Speed | +8 | |
| Sp. Atk | +8 | |
| Sp. Def | +8 |
- Macho Brace then doubles every stat's gain. It comes from the Winstrate family in Emerald and is a hidden item in Viridian City's Gym in FireRed.
The Power items work if held, but no Power item can be obtained at this release.
Vitamins and EV berries
Vitamins add 10 EVs; the six EV berries take 10 away (down to 0). Both also raise friendship, by an amount that shrinks as friendship grows. A held Soothe Bell makes that friendship gain half as large again. Use them from the Bag, outside battle; the server checks every use.
| Item | Stat | EVs | Friendship at 0-99 | Friendship at 100-199 | Friendship at 200-255 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HP | +10 | +5 | +3 | +2 | |
| Attack | +10 | +5 | +3 | +2 | |
| Defense | +10 | +5 | +3 | +2 | |
| Speed | +10 | +5 | +3 | +2 | |
| Sp. Atk | +10 | +5 | +3 | +2 | |
| Sp. Def | +10 | +5 | +3 | +2 | |
| HP | -10 | +10 | +5 | +2 | |
| Attack | -10 | +10 | +5 | +2 | |
| Defense | -10 | +10 | +5 | +2 | |
| Speed | -10 | +10 | +5 | +2 | |
| Sp. Atk | -10 | +10 | +5 | +2 | |
| Sp. Def | -10 | +10 | +5 | +2 |
HP Up cannot be used on Shedinja.
Differs from the mainline games
Vitamins work all the way to 252 EVs in a stat, as in Generation 8 and later; in Generation 3 they stop at 100. An EV berry still raises friendship on a stat that has no EVs left to lower.
Exp. Reamplifier
While the Exp. Reamplifier is switched on, every healthy Pokémon in your party gets the full EVs of each knockout, not only the ones that fought. Macho Brace does not double EVs while it is on.
Not in the game yet
There is no Pokérus, and there are no Wings.
