Friends
Adding friends, answering requests, blocking, and the privacy settings.
Friends belong to your account, not to one character: one friendship covers every character either of you plays, and it survives the end of a Hardcore run.
Adding a friend
- Choose Add friend on someone's row in the Online tab, on their name in chat, or by right-clicking them on the map.
- Or type their name on the Requests tab. The name must match exactly, including capitals, and the player must be online and not invisible.
If the other player has already sent you a request, sending one back accepts it. Requests you have not answered expire after 30 days.
Requests and notices
- A request that arrives while you play shows "name sent you a friend request". Requests that were waiting when you signed in are summed up in one line, with a reminder in the System chat tab to answer them in Social (O), on the Requests tab.
- Accept or Decline an incoming request; Cancel one you sent.
- When a friend comes online you see "name is online" with their area and channel. After three such notices the rest are counted ("N more friends are online"). You can turn this off with Tell me when a friend comes online.
The friends list
Online friends are listed first, with their run icon, region, channel, route and whether they are in a battle or a cutscene. The route shows only if their privacy setting lets you see it. Offline friends show the character they were last seen as and how long ago.
Remove takes someone off your list. Neither of you is told.
Limits
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Friends | 100 |
| Requests you have sent and not yet had answered | 20 |
| New requests you can send | 10 an hour |
| Blocked players | 200 |
Blocking
Block is on a friend's row and on a name in chat. Blocking ends the friendship, drops any requests between you, and stops them sending you requests or whispers. They are not told: to them you simply cannot be found. Blocked players are listed on the Requests tab with Unblock.
Blocking does not hide a player's lines in Global or Local chat. There is no chat mute yet.
Privacy settings
At the bottom of the Requests tab:
| Setting | Choices | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Appear offline (invisible) | On / Off | Off |
| Who sees your route | Friends / Everyone / Nobody | Friends |
| Who may whisper you | Anyone / Friends only | Anyone |
| Who may watch your battles | Everyone / Friends only / Nobody | Everyone |
| Tell me when a friend comes online | On / Off | On |
While invisible you are left out of everyone's Online list and cannot be added by name.
