Menu bar and action bar
The menu bar in the bottom-right corner and the nine-slot action bar.
Menu bar
The menu bar sits in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Its groups, left to right:

Entries marked "Coming soon" in their tooltip are placeholders and do nothing yet.
Not in the game yet
PvP, incubators, the market, mail and the gift shop have places on the menu bar but are not in the game.
On a gamepad, Start moves focus to the bar's Menu group. Left and right pick a group, Up or A opens it, B steps back, and Start returns you to the game. The bar hides with the HUD, in battles and in cutscenes.
The Esc menu holds Resume, Settings, FAQ, Report a bug, Respawn, Log out and Exit. In the Safari Zone it also offers to retire from the Safari Game.
Chat
Chat starts hidden to its row of tabs: Global, Local, System, Battle Log and Whisper. Show opens it and the game remembers that choice; Enter opens it just to type.
Action bar
Nine slots, on keys 1 to 9, at the top of the screen to the right of the HUD. A slot holds an item (a bike, a rod, a repel) or a field move.
- To fill a slot, choose REGISTER on an item in the bag, or Add … to bar on a move in the party menu, then pick the slot.
- To clear a slot, right-click it.
- An item slot greys out when the item is not in your bag. A move slot greys out when no Pokémon in your party knows the move, unless you carry the matching Move Rune.
The layout belongs to your character, so it follows you to another computer.
